 The awards highlight the best and safest beaches |
The South West has more Blue Flag award winning beaches than anywhere else in England, says a report. Thirty stretches of sand have been named as winners of the international accolade, four more than last year.
In Devon they include: Bigbury, Challaborough, Croyde, Oddicombe, Broadsands, Preston Beach, Blackpool Sands and Tunnels Beaches, Ilfracombe.
Eight beaches in Cornwall have been awarded blue flags this year, including Carbis Bay for the first time.
Good access
Marazion has made it back on to the list having not been awarded the flag last year.
Other winning beaches are: Gyllyngvase, Polzeath, Porthmeor, Porthminster, Porthtowan and Sennen Cove.
The accolade is organised by the Foundation for Environmental Education, along with Encams, formerly known as Keep Britain Tidy.
The Blue Flag is only awarded to resorts which have good access, top notch facilities, litter-free sand and clean sea water.
Of the 120 awards made, 43 were issued in Wales, five more than last year, and 77 in England, an increase of 20.
