Affordable homes from second tax
House hunters looking for affordable property have welcomed a project which will see more than 100 new homes being built this year in Cornwall.

Contributions from the council tax paid by second home owners are helping to fund the building schemes near Hayle and Connor Downs.

The Penwith Housing Association said the houses are badly needed.

Building work at the development in Hayle is almost ready for residents to start moving in.

Poppy Trefry, who lives in Newlyn, told BBC News how difficult it is to get on the property ladder in Cornwall.

She said: "I think for me at the moment it's practically impossible.

"I'd maybe be able to afford a house worth about 80,000 or 90,000, but all you can get for that is a bed-sit that hasn't even got room to move my furniture into."
