Paramedics delivered a baby girl in the back of an ambulance during last week's heavy snow storms in Cornwall, it emerged on Friday. Baby Leah was born on Saturday morning, outside Truro football club, as the vehicle was hampered by icy roads on its journey from Mullion.
The 5lb 5oz baby and her mother were then taken the rest of the way to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske.
Mother Samantha Wallwork and baby are both doing well.
Technician Steve Day, who was in the ambulance with paramedic Chris Rogers, said it was the first baby he had delivered.
He said: "This particular call was the final job of the evening and it couldn't have been a more satisfying one.
"As with any call we were only too pleased to help."
Mr Rogers said: "It is always so rewarding for us when an incident has a positive outcome, where we have been able not just to help, but to really make a difference.
"Congratulations to the lady who gave birth, and to her family on the new arrival.
"We are pleased to hear that mother and baby are doing fine."
