Beach developers warn over delays
Carlyon Bay
Developers want to press ahead with sea defences
Developers hoping to build more than 500 homes at Carlyon Bay in Cornwall say new planning delays could see parts of the beach closed for years.

The Government Office for the South West has banned Restormel Borough Council from granting planning permission for new sea defences.

It wants Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott to decide first whether there should be a public inquiry.

But developers warn parts of the beach could stay closed if work is held up.

Ampersand has already withdrawn applications to demolish the Cornwall Coliseum on the site and allow year-round occupancy of the flats, after protests.

Planning permission to build 511 holiday homes at Carlyon Bay was granted in 1991 and renewed in 1996.
