Jake: Confined to the bench |
There have been shouts of "foul play" in Cornwall after council officials banned a dog from playing football. Jake is the unofficial mascot for St Columb Major Football Club and has regularly entertained the crowd and players with his headers and dribbling.
Owner Tony Slark says a town council by-law aimed at preventing the fouling of the recreation field means Jake is confined to the bench.
No-one from the council has been available for comment.
Home advantage
Mr Slark claimed the council would not allow Jake, a four-and-a-half-year-old terrier cross, to practice on the field despite the football club's permission.
He said: "He's never fouled on a football pitch in his life.
"He's got nowhere to practise now. We can't take him to the beach because the sand gets in his eyes when he picks the ball up."
Mr Slark is certain other clubs would be barking mad not to want striker Jake as a mascot, because the home team always appears to win anywhere he plays.
