Cherry trees have been planted in the Tamar Valley in an attempt to create a traditional orchard.

It is the latest stage in the National Trust's Mother Orchard project on the Cotehele Estate near the Tamar.

The Tamar Valley was once the heart of a huge market garden industry and the National Trust is attempting to safeguard that tradition.

The first phase of the project has now been completed with the planting by Mary Martin and James Evans.

Over the last 25 years, they have collected many different varieties which are at risk.

The National Trust says many local varieties could have been lost without them.
