One of Cornwall's biggest companies could be forced to lay off staff because of industrial action taking place in Scandinavia. Paper workers in Finland have been locked out by their employers for the last three weeks.
Around a quarter of overseas clay sales from Imerys near St Austell go to the Finnish paper industry.
The company has been in talks with the unions in an attempt to minimise the effect on workers.
The company produces calcium carbonates which are important to the paper industry.
The regional organiser of the T&G union Dave Springbett said: "The company have mooted the possibility of short term lay offs or short term working.
"We don't want to get into that. We are working with the company to explore every other possible avenue to alleviate going into short term working."
