Jabs offered in mumps outbreak
Vaccination
MMR jabs are being offered to those born between 1978 and 1985
Doctors in Cornwall say they are still treating an outbreak of mumps among young people in the west of the county.

Last month doctors warned that 30 young people in the area were suffering from the illness, with St Ives one of the worst-hit towns.

The West of Cornwall Primary Care Trust wrote to schools urging teenagers to come forward for MMR vaccinations.

Now doctors in St Ives say cases of mumps are also occurring in the 19 to 25 age group.

GPs say they are keen to reduce the risk of people contracting what they call "this unpleasant disease".

They are now offering MMR vaccinations to people born between 1978 and 1985.

Mumps causes flu-like symptoms and swelling of the glands, but occasionally can lead to more serious problems.
