The council has four vacancies it is struggling to fill
A Cornish council is struggling to fill several vacancies it has for school crossing patrols.

Despite repeated advertising in local papers and schools, Cornwall County Council is having no joy in filling four positions for lollipop wardens.

The vacant sites are at Mount Folly in Bodmin, Looe, and two in Liskeard - in Dean Street and outside Barclays Bank.

County Road Safety Officer Joan Mallard said: "It is vital we fill these vacancies as soon as possible."

She added that it was the responsibility of parents, where there was no patrol, to ensure their children got to and from school safely and to take extra care when crossing roads not patrolled.

Sandra Amy, who is the school crossing patrol co-ordinator for North Cornwall, said: "If anybody would like a worthwhile job, helping children cross roads in safety, then this is the ideal job for them."
