Artist puts county on the map
Houses above the Sea
Lindsay's work was painted on Cornwall's south coast
An artist based in Cornwall has made it on to the shortlist of a prestigious art competition, impressing the judges with his depictions of the county.

Alasdair Lindsay is one of six artists shortlisted for the Hunting Art Prizes 2004.

1,800 entries were submitted to the competition competing to win the first prize of 12,000.

The work which impressed the judges is entitled Houses above the Sea and was painted on the south coast of Cornwall.

'Particular pleasure'

Much of Lindsay's work focuses on the Cornish landscape.

He fell in love with the duchy while studying Fine Art at Falmouth College of Art.

He now lives and works in Cornwall, and says he finds "particular pleasure and inspiration" in the surrounding landscape.

A number of Cornish artists have enjoyed success at the Hunting Art Prizes in recent years, Lisa Wright won first prize in last year's competition with her work Diving.

A selection of works from this year's exhibition will be on show at The Gallery at Trebah Gardens, near Falmouth, in March.

The prize winners will be announced at The Royal College of Art in London on 16 February.
