Staff and pupils at Calstock Primary School are celebrating a dramatic turnaround in their league ratings. Having been among the first schools in the country to be described as failing by inspectors, it has now achieved second place in Cornwall.
League results, published on Thursday, also reveal that Harrowbarrow school in Callington has been ranked as Cornwall's top primary.
Schools are rated according to the percentage of children who achieve level four, the government's required standard in English, maths and science.
Strength to strength
Calstock deputy head Elizabeth Fenton, said: "It's a case of everyone working really hard together.
"The teachers have worked together, the children have been wonderful and the parents have backed us to the hilt.
"Now we hope to go from strength to strength."
Beacon Community Junior School in Falmouth is among the worst performing in Cornwall and the rest of the country, along with St Dennis Primary.
There is just one Cornish school in the national top 200, for those with the highest proportion of level five scores, Perranarworthal Community Primary.
