Hitchhiker sought in murder hunt
Carol and Graham Fisher
The Fishers were victims of a planned attack, police believe
Detectives investigating a double murder in Cornwall say they want to trace a hitchhiker seen on the A39 the night the couple were shot and beaten.

Graham and Carol Fisher, aged 60 and 53, were attacked at their bungalow and petrol station on the A39 near Wadebridge on 5 November.

About 2,500 people were interviewed at a roadblock set up on Thursday night close to the murder scene, one week after the murders.

Some of those interviewed reported seeing the man in his 30s walking in the rain.

Planned attack

Detective Superintendent Stuart Newberry, who is leading the investigation, said the hitchhiker was not dressed for the conditions.

"It is really important that we try and identify this hitchhiker.

Traffic queue
Drivers waited in queues for up to an hour

" It is quite likely he is nothing at all to do with this investigation, so we really want to rule him out so we can get on with items that are really relevant to this inquiry."

For six hours on Thursday night a team of 30 police officers stopped motorists heading in both directions past the couple's garage.

Some drivers waited in queues for more than an hour.

Police believe the Fishers were victims of a planned and personal attack and 60 police officers are now involved in the inquiry, named Operation Rowan.
