Alex Parks: Impressed Bee Gee Robin Gibb with "difficult song" |
Truro guitarist and singer Alex Parks has won through the second elimination round in BBC One's Fame Academy. Alex, 19, got a thumbs-up from all four judges with her version of the 1967 No 1 song, Baby Now That I've Found You, by The Foundations.
She is now in the final 11 competing for a lucrative recording contract and the life of a pop star for a year.
She was cheered on in the studio by her parents and brother.
But the biggest pat on the back came from judge Richard Parks, who said: "That song is really hard to do. It's really a clubby, dancey sort of song that is played at weddings.
"I've never heard it performed like that, or as well as that."
'Special personality'
Singer David Grant told her: "I find it really interesting that you don't think you're anything special because I think everyone else does."
Bee Gee Robin Gibb said: "It's a very difficult song to sing, but you have a great vocal tone which is really important."
Alex has also been getting some positive feedback on the Fame Academy message board.
Natacha Lumbroso writes: "Alex is wonderful, that voice had me from the second I heard it.
"I'm in awe, she has the voice, the looks and she has a beautiful, warm, shy , special personality."
