Some businesses in a Cornish town are to postpone paying their rates in protest against street traders operating on the harbour side. Residents and businesspeople say the casual traders, who charge for hair braiding and henna tattoos, are giving Padstow a bad name and take valuable income from traders who have to pay business rates.
North Cornwall District Council and the Harbour Commissioners will be taking action to stop the traders next summer.
Town councillor and businessman Richard Gomm says it is a problem which must be tackled.

"Frankly they have just got to go, it's as simple as that," said Mr Gomm.
"I understand the harbour commissioners can now extend their by-law to include the area where these people are trading so they should just get to grips with it and enforce whatever by-laws are available to them."
The harbour master Captain Trevor Platt says the commissioners are concerned, but for health and safety reasons.
