Lifeboats were called to five incidents over 24 hours |
Lifeboat crews in a Cornwall town were called out three times overnight after reports of boats in difficulties. Fowey's inshore lifeboat rescued two people from an overturned speedboat after it struck rocks and capsized in Carlyon Bay at about 2100 BST.
The port's all-weather lifeboat was diverted to help a French yacht, the Galea, which had fouled its propeller close to Polperro on Sunday evening. The vessel was then escorted into harbour.
The inshore lifeboat was launched again in the early hours of Monday morning after a mayday alert.
Mayday search
During the speedboat rescue, a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose attended the scene.
The inshore lifeboat searched Fowey harbour and St Austell Bay as far as Charlestown after receiving the mayday call on Monday morning, but found nothing.
Coastguard teams from St Austell and Polruan were also involved in the search, but no other distress call was heard.
Fowey lifeboat crews were also involved in two rescues on Sunday afternoon at Pentewan and Looe Island.
