A30 among worst bottlenecks

Traffic could be eased with a dual carriageway
Cornwall's most notorious section of road has been listed in a top10 of national traffic jam hotspots.

The A30 at Goss Moor has been named by the AA as one of the worst areas in the country for congestion, alongside roads such as the M4, the M5, and the M2.

The road, which is the main route in and out of the county, has become notorious during the summer months for delays, and also because of road closures when lorries hit an iron bridge.

A planned dual carriageway from Indian Queens around Goss Moor to Innis Downs, near Bodmin is expected to ease the problem.

But hopes that work would start soon have been set back after it was revealed that there were a large number of objections and an inquiry could be held.

Cornwall County Council and Cornwall Chamber of Commerce say the jams act as a deterrent to visitors coming to Cornwall.

Several other roads in Cornwall, including the A38 from Liskeard to Dobwalls, are on a separate list from the AA of the worst traffic jam hotspots in the south west.
