Andrew George wants second homes outlawed in some villages |
A Cornish MP is calling for second homes to be outlawed in some villages. St Ives MP Andrew George says planning regulations should be used to stop more properties being turned into holiday homes.
He claims radical action is needed to control what he calls the "most severe local housing crisis in a generation".
Mr George suggests planning orders could be used to prevent more holiday homes in areas where local people cannot find somewhere to live.
He also says there might have to be compulsory purchase powers to buy land for affordable homes on the edges of towns and villages.
He held a debate on affordable housing in Penzance on Friday night.
The debate took place at St John's Hall in Penzance.
Other speakers included council officials and an adviser from Shelter.
