Headteacher Jed Holmes was found dead at his home |
Colleagues and parents have paid tribute to a head teacher found dead at home a day before an Ofsted inspection. Jed Holmes, aged in his 50s, had been head of Hampton Hargate in Peterborough since it opened in 2000 but had been off work suffering from stress.
Flowers and messages of condolence were left by friends and colleagues at the school, which closed on Thursday.
A police spokesman said: "It is being treated as a sudden death and is now in the hands of the coroner."
Mr Holmes was head of the successful school that had been praised in the last Ofsted inspection in 2003.
Final assembly
He had also mentored other head teachers and was due to retire in two years' time.
Mohammed Mehmet, director of children's services at Peterborough City Council, said: "I spoke to him earlier in the week.
"He was relaxed and said he wanted a word with me before the end of term and seemed to be looking forward to coming back to work."
Julie O'Neill, a parent and former colleague, said: "My daughter was one of the first pupils in the reception class and now he will not be there to see her at her final assembly - it's so sad."
