Part of city closed after flood

The road could be closed for several days for repairs
A part of Peterborough city centre is still closed after a burst water main caused severe flooding.

Traffic has been diverted from Westgate since Monday's flood. Water was leaked at a rate of 500 litres a second.

An Anglian Water spokeswoman said engineers repaired the water main overnight and it was being tested for water quality.

"We are liaising with the Highways Agency as to when the road will be repaired," she said.

"It could be several days (before it reopens) because the road surface was damaged during the flood, and further damage was caused as engineers had to excavate in order to carry out repairs," she added.

There was no damage to commercial premises, Anglian Water said.
