15-a-flush toilets to close down
A council is to close its public toilets because it costs tax payers 15 every time someone spends a penny.

Huntingdonshire District Council has decided to close seven of its public conveniences - which cost 10p a go - in an attempt to save public money.

A council spokeswoman said because people do not use them the cost of keeping the toilets open is the equivalent of 15 a flush.

The council hopes the closures will save more than 100,000 a year.

"It's much cheaper to terminate the contract now than to keep providing an unwanted and unused service when we don't have to," she said.

The council blames the increasing number of shops and restaurants that provide customer toilets for the dwindling use of public conveniences.
