Plans for the stadium were submitted on Friday Bristol City Football Club has formally submitted plans for its proposed new 30,000 seat stadium at Ashton Vale. The £65m stadium also has the potential to host 42,000 fans should England host World Cup matches in 2018. Officials from North Somerset Council and Bristol City Council will now decide whether the scheme can go ahead. The club's chairman Steve Lansdown said: "We believe it would be one of the most exciting developments seen in Bristol for many years." Its current home, Ashton Gate, was built in 1904 and has a capacity of just over 21,000. The club is hoping the new stadium will be built by 2012.
