The Bristol grave of a social, religious and educational Indian reformer is to be restored with 50,000 raised by the Mayor of Kolkata. Ram Mohan Roy, 61, died of a fever while visiting the city in 1833 and was buried in Arnos Vale cemetery.
Carla Contractor, a local historian who has campaigned to have the tomb restored, welcomed the news.
"The dome is leaking, the pillars and sandstone tomb are crumbling, but finally now it will be done," she said.
