A deal is being brokered between First Group and Bristol City Council in an attempt to get buses running on time. The Bus Punctuality Improvement Partnership (Buspip) is aimed at winning back passengers who have abandoned the buses.
It has been drawn up after an investigation into improving the punctuality and reliability of services and promoting pre-payment of fares.
Depending on Buspip's success, First has pledged to hold or reduce fares.
'Enforcing parking'
"The deal is they (Bristol City Council) assist us with infrastructure improvement and we look at our punctuality and try to improve that," said Simon Cursio, Operations Director for First.
"It's fair to say punctuality has affected our service as has congestion," he admitted.
The city council is working with surrounding authorities as well as with First.
"We're going to be ensuring traffic management is better, enforcing parking, improve signals and things of this sort so that the roads on which the buses travel ought to work better and in partnership, we're going to identify where the pinch points are and deal with them," said councillor Dennis Brown.
