Benn speaks at Rolls-Royce rally
Jerry Hicks, Amicus union convenor
Jerry Hicks was sacked from his job last month
Veteran politician Tony Benn is to speak at a rally in support of sacked Rolls-Royce union rep Jerry Hicks.

Mr Hicks, an Amicus convenor, was dismissed from his post last month after allegations of misconduct.

An employment tribunal has found that Mr Hicks had "probably been dismissed on trade union grounds". A full hearing will take place in six months.

Ex-Labour MP Mr Benn, a Bristol MP from 1950 to 1983, will join a rally on College Green on Wednesday evening.

Mr Benn said: "He's a highly-skilled man and he's been sacked, as far as I can tell, because of his trade union activities."

Amicus is demanding Mr Hicks' reinstatement with Rolls-Royce, and about 100 engineering workers at the Filton plant are to strike in support of him next Monday.
