"He had gone to sleep on some grass in the back of the lorry," said Ms McVicar who has won gold medals at Chelsea in eight previous years.
"They caught him and he went back home in the cab of the vehicle," she said.
Jekka McVicar, whose herb farm is at Alveston, Thornbury, near Bristol, has published several books and broadcast a series of programmes about herbs on BBC Radio 4.
She has appeared on the BBC television programmes Gardeners' World and Tracks, and on Bloom on Channel 4.
As well as having her own exhibit at Chelsea, she has this year supplied thousands of herb plants - including catmint - for one of the main show gardens, The 4head Garden.
