Car-share scheme for commuters
A secure car park for commuters to leave their vehicles in and continue their journeys by sharing vehicles is to open later this month.

The facility at Longwell Green on the outskirts of Bristol will have 200 free parking spaces and cycle stands.

Those using it can find a car-sharing partner by registering on a website.

The car park, at Aspects Leisure Park, will be available between 0630 and 1830GMT, Monday to Friday. It will be officially opened on Tuesday 30 March.

The local council says there are many advantages to "park and share", including environmental benefits, financial savings on petrol and parking and getting to work more quickly using designated lanes for multi-occupancy vehicles.

South Gloucestershire already has a large car-sharing culture, with about 1,000 people registered on its 2carshare website.

The car-share-friendly parking scheme is one of the first of its kind in Britain.
