Beckham quilt pads out charity's coffers
The quilt
The quilt took eight months to put together
A quilt signed by David Beckham, Terry Wogan and Michael Palin has made more than 400 for charity.

The king-sized quilt, made up of patches signed by a host of sporting and television stars, was sold in an internet auction.

Money raised from the sale of the seven-foot-square comforter, which was stitched together by a Bristol patchwork class, will go to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and the city's Southmead Hospital.

It was bought by a man from Bow in Cumbria - though it is not known whether he was interested in any particular signature or the quilt itself.

The Horfield Quilters spent eight months making the star-signed blanket before deciding to sell it to the highest bidder on eBay.

Peter Watson, local area organiser for the BHF, said: "We are absolutely delighted.

"The money will be divided between us and the local hospital's coronary care unit so we will each get about 200.

"I understand the quilters are hard at work on another piece, though sadly this time we will not share in the proceeds as the money raised will go to kidney charities."
