Shopping centre revamp plans
A scene from the plans
Work could be over by 2007
Plans for a 500m redesign of Bristol's Broadmead Shopping Centre have gone on show.

The scheme was approved by the government in January, and it is hoped that the new Broadmead will be a busy, vibrant place, safer for city-goers at night.

Key features of the new centre include a glass roof, a flagship department store and new leisure facilities.

Up to a third of existing shops will be knocked down, with flats and a major new car park expected to take their place.

Permission for the renovations has already been granted by Bristol City Council and if work starts next summer, it could be finished in 2007.

A scale model of the proposed development is on public view for two weeks from Monday at the Galleries.
