Joiner makes homemade snow plough for Bradford street

Mr Raistrick said it took him less than two hours to make the plough

A man from Bradford has constructed a homemade wooden plough to help clear snow from his street.

Joiner Gavin Raistrick assembled pieces of wood in his garage and attached them to the front of his van to make sure the road was accessible.

Mr Raistrick said he had used "a bit of initiative and loose timber" to make the plough, after becoming fed up with having to use a shovel to clear snow.

"I think it's put a bit of morale back on the street," he told BBC Look North.

Mr Raistrick said it had taken him about an hour and 45 minutes to build the plough.

"I spent ages digging out the street, but the snow kept coming down," he said.

"The first version of the plough was a little bit rushed and the ice got hold of it so it didn't really take to the snow. I went back to the drawing board, and the second version obliterated it. It's worked out well for everybody."

Neighbour Richard Oates said: "People do appreciate it. The milkman up the road came along with two pints of milk and a dozen eggs for Gav.

"If he hadn't come up with this idea, people wouldn't have been able to get off this road, because it's a cul-de-sac, and downhill from the main road. It's helped us all."
