Winter run route to be ploughed

Great Winter Run 2006, Edinburgh
Thousands of people have entered the run around Arthur's Seat

An annual winter race around Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh will go ahead on Saturday despite the recent cold snap, organisers have confirmed.

Organisers of the Bupa Great Winter Run have paid for a snow plough and gritter to clear the 5km route.

They also said that if the conditions are too bad they would rearrange the route rather than cancel the race.

The Bupa Junior Great Winter Run and the Bupa Great Edinburgh International Cross Country will also go ahead.

A Nova International spokeswoman said: "If after this we still have concerns over the running conditions then we do have a contingency route, details of which will be published on the Great Run website very soon.

"An alternative route is very much the back-up plan and our number one priority is to provide a good, safe running experience."
