Mary-Ann witness cries in court
Mary-Ann Leneghan
Mary-Ann was found dead in Reading's Prospect Park on 7 May
The friend who was with murdered Mary-Ann Leneghan on the night she died broke down in court as she described how she was also led out to be killed.

The 19-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said how she was told - as she was being raped - the night had reached the "final stage".

The pair are said to have been abducted in May last year in Reading, Berkshire.

Five defendants deny charges of rape, kidnap and murder, but one man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping the pair.

The jury at Reading Crown Court heard how the girls were abducted and forced into the boot of a car as they sat in the car park of the Wallingford Arms in Reading on 6 May, last year.

The teenager said they were then taken to room 19 of the Abbey House Hotel and subjected to a lengthy ordeal of rape and torture, during which they were "beaten with a metal pole and ordered to strip".

The girl and Mary-Ann were then taken to the town's Prospect Park, where Mary-Ann was stabbed to death.

The friend was shot in the head, but "miraculously survived", the jury has heard.

On Friday, as she was questioned by prosecutor Richard Latham QC about the final moments in the hotel room and being led out to the car, she broke down and the hearing was briefly adjourned.

The girl said the pair were shown guns and a knife and continuously told they were going to be killed.

She cried as she described how she was raped by a man wearing white jogging bottoms.

The court heard the girls were ordered to kneel on the ground "side-by-side" and told to put pillow cases over their heads by two men at the park.

One wore a bandana over the lower half of his face and the other, white jogging bottoms.

The court heard the man with the bandana was the one who repeatedly stabbed Mary-Ann.

When Mr Latham asked the girl where the dead girl had been stabbed, she said: "Her upper body, her chest, her breasts, everything.

'Police photographs'

"They said something about wanting her to die slowly."

She told the court a man put a gun to her head and said: "Are you ready to die?"

The court heard 10 days after the ordeal, she identified five men from a number of pictures shown to her by the police.

The teenager identified pictures of Adrian Thomas, whom she had known as Redz, Michael Johnson and Joshua Morally, whom she knew as "J".

She also pointed to the picture of another unnamed man and said he raped and shot her.

Joshua Morally, 23, and his brother, Jamaile, 22, both of Balham, south London; Indrit Krasniqui, 18, of Chiswick, west London; Llewellyn Adams, 24, of Balham; Michael Johnson, 19, of Southfields, south-west London; and Adrian Thomas, 20, of Battersea, south London, all deny murder, attempted murder, rape and causing grievous bodily harm to the two girls.

All except Joshua Morally deny kidnap. Jamaile Morally denies a further charge of raping Mary-Ann's friend.

The trial continues.
