Earthquake survivors in Pakistan will soon be walking around in the old uniforms of a UK police force. Twenty bags of uniforms that were destined for the skip have been sent out to the Bagh area of northern Pakistan by Thames Valley Police.
Volunteers were called in to Reading police station to remove the epaulettes and badges from the uniforms.
Heavy-duty trousers, white shirts, jumpers and waterproof jackets are all being sent out to Pakistan.
Normally, old uniforms and those belonging to staff who have left are thrown away or recycled.
Ch Insp Shaun Virtue said: "We wanted to do something to help and were only too pleased to supply the clothing, which may seem odd as it is old police uniform, but it is hard-wearing, warm and comfortable and the least we can do to help the people who need our support."
