One-way road plan wins approval
The IDR
The scheme will see the demolition of the road's concrete flyover
The latest steps towards transforming a vital town centre road into a one-way route have been approved.

Members of Reading Borough Council's cabinet gave the 9m transformation of the town's inner distribution road (IDR) the go-ahead on Monday night.

Council officers told them that studies had shown the scheme would reduce traffic jams in the area.

But they admitted it would "disadvantage" through-traffic and neighbouring councils may object to it.

Planners are now expected to draw up more detailed proposals for the scheme that will also see the IDR's infamous concrete flyover demolished.

Further consultation will also be carried out on the one-way proposal, which was first tabled in December 2002.
