One-way overhaul plans approved
The IDR
It is hoped the one-way plan will ease congestion on the IDR
The first steps towards reshaping a major town road and turning it into a one-way route have been taken.

Council bosses backed the ambitious idea to tackle traffic congestion on the inner distribution road (IDR) in Reading, Berkshire, on Monday night.

Planners will now draw up more detailed plans for the scheme that will also see the IDR's infamous concrete flyover demolished and 1,000 trees planted.

The public will be given the chance to have their say on the plan.

The scheme were first tabled in December 2002 as part of the council's transport strategy.

Since then, a survey has shown that, of 1,800 people asked, 1,102 were in favour of the idea.
