One-way road plan to be discussed
The IDR
The scheme will see the demolition of the road's concrete flyover
The next step towards transforming a vital town centre road into a one-way route is to be taken on Monday.

Members of Reading Borough Council's cabinet are to be asked to approve plans for the 9m transformation of the town's inner distribution road (IDR).

Council officers will tell the meeting how studies show the scheme will tackle traffic jams on and around the road.

But they admit it would "disadvantage" through-traffic and neighbouring councils may object to it.

If the scheme is given its expected approval, planners will draw up more detailed proposals for the scheme that will also see the IDR's infamous concrete flyover demolished.

Further consultation will also be carried out on the one-way proposal, which was first tabled in December 2002.
