New bins to aid litter campaign
Stubbed out cigarette
The bins are placed outside fast food restaurants across Reading.
A campaign which clinched Britain in Bloom's "Best Anti-Litter Award" has led to the installation of 30 new bins across Reading in Berkshire.

Cigarette stubs can be deposited in a specially designed section of the bins, strategically placed outside fast food outlets across the town centre.

The steel bins form part of "Keep It Clean", a joint campaign between Reading Borough Council and residents.

The scheme is designed to tackle litter, graffiti and fly posting.

June Orton, Reading's lead councillor for environmental services, said: "From talking to local people it's clear that discarded cigarette stubs and chewing gum littering the pavements is a real annoyance.

"We have recently blitzed neighbourhood shopping centres and removed chewing gum, cigarette stubs, graffiti and fly posting and the installation of these new bins is the next phase in our campaign to keep Reading clean."
