The crackdown in Coleshill followed a similar initiative in nearby Water Orton last week.

Police officers are travelling around north Warwickshire with new large anti-graffiti power washers.

Members of Coleshill Town Council joined police and the Mayor, Norrie Henderson, said he was impressed that dozens of volunteers took part.

He said that news of the scheme had spread by word of mouth around the area.

The Mayor told BBC WM in Coventry and Warwickshire: "All the town councillors turned up and lots of their family and friends.

"We were issued with brushes and gloves and we all had hot spots to go to around the town.

"The big areas were covered by the power washer.
