A new ruling has given campaigners fresh hope over village greens

Developers have been given planning permission to build 19 new houses next to the primary school in Winnersh.

But people living nearby are applying for special village green status for the land, which would block any building work.

It could take up to two years to get the special status approved, but would mean anything built in the meantime could be demolished.

The fight follows a landmark decision in the House of Lords in November, which ruled public right to access the land meant it could not be built on.

Now local people are being asked to gather evidence to show the field has been used by the public as their right for the last 20 years.
