Meeting against holiday village
Center Parcs
The resort firm runs four centres in the UK
Campaigners fighting Center Parcs' plans for a new holiday village at Warren Wood in Beds are holding a public meeting on Thursday night.

The firm, which has four other sites in Notts, Suffolk, Wiltshire and Cumbria, wants to build the village on a site off the A507 near Millbrook.

Opponents of the 160m plan believe it would "destroy an area of great landscape value and natural beauty".

But Center Parcs said it would "protect and enhance the local environment".

The meeting is being held at 1930 BST at the Rufus Centre in Steppingley Road, Flitwick.

The organisers want to protect the 365-acre site at Warren Wood, where the Parc will be built and have already launched an e-petition

Tina Kent, of Against Center Parcs at Warren Wood, said: "We are outraged at the proposal to build on this Green-belt land.

"The development is totally inappropriate and will destroy an area of great landscape value and natural beauty.

'Boost employment'

The village would be built on land leased from the Duke of Bedford, who owns Woburn Safari Park.

Center Parcs has begun the process of discussions and consultation with Mid Bedfordshire District Council and other key bodies.

If plans are approved the village could be built within four years.

Center Parcs has said it would consult widely with the local community.

Chief executive officer Martin Dalby said: "The proposal we will be submitting will protect and enhance the local environment, significantly boost employment and bring major benefits to the local economy."

Center Parcs already has holiday villages at Longleat, Wilts; Oasis Whinfell, Lake District; Sherwood, Notts, and Elveden, Suffolk.
