An asylum seeker has been found guilty of taking part in a riot in which half of a �100m flagship detention centre was destroyed by fire. On Wednesday, Nigerian Henry Momodou, 39, was found guilty of violent disorder which took place at Yarl's Wood detention centre, Bedfordshire, in February 2002.
He was found not guilty of arson by the jury at Harrow Crown Court.
Momodou was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the end of the trial.
The jury is still deliberating on a violent disorder charge against Nigerian asylum seekers Lucky Jacobs, 23, Kayode Abdul, 24, and Kosovo Albanians Behar Limani, 26, and Jgergi Tuka, 25.
Staff at the Home Office detention centre were forced to barricade themselves into offices as some detainees started fires and tried to break out on 14 February 2002.
The trial was adjourned until Thursday.
