Fan's tattoo tribute to Sir Bobby

A Newcastle United supporter has had a personal memorial to the late Sir Bobby Robson tattooed on his thigh.

George Wright, 45, from Newcastle, said he wanted a unique tribute to the footballing legend - and spent £600 on a portrait of a smiling Sir Bobby.

The former England, Ipswich and Newcastle manager died on 31 July after a long battle with cancer.

Newcastle's St James' Park has become a shrine to County Durham-born Sir Bobby, where fans have laid tributes.

Mr Wright, a construction manager and father-of-four, said: "I was gutted and absolutely devastated when I heard Sir Bobby had died.

"I was sitting that night and I thought about all the people that were going to St James' Park with scarves, flowers and tributes.

"Eventually they are all going to get cleared away and I thought Sir Bobby deserved something more permanent.

"So I phoned up my tattooist and I went in for a session on Sunday.

"The full portrait of Sir Bobby is on now and it looks absolutely mint.

"I've had quite a reaction from friends and family and people keep pulling my trousers down in the street to have a look - I'm going to get into trouble."

He said the eight-hour tattooing session had been painful, but had been worth it.
