The new 25m Parkway station is already proving popular with passengers, rail bosses have said. More than 4,000 journeys have already been made to or from the region's newest railway station since it opened just off the A453 last week. Managers at East Midlands Trains believe part of its appeal is being only a mile from the M1. More than 100 services stop each day, with trains to and from London every 15 to 20 minutes at peak times. The station has been on the drawing board for more than a decade. It was originally expected to open in December but was delayed after residents called for a 300m access road to be formally adopted as a public highway. The new station has four platforms, step-free access and 850 parking spaces. It also uses a ground-heat system as well as locally sourced and recycled materials.
