A celebrity event in Durham in aid of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has brought the total raised for the charity to �1m. Sir Bobby Robson was joined by Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton at the event at the Rainton Meadows Suites, Houghton-le-Spring, on Thursday. The Night of All Knights raised �185,000 for the former England manager's foundation, set up in 2008. Sir Bobby, 75, has been diagnosed with cancer five times in the last 15 years. Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall and opera singer Graeme Danby provided the entertainment. New treatment The foundation has raised funds to pay for a research centre for the early detection of the disease. It will also help support clinical trials of promising new treatments to tackle the disease. Speaking about his cancer, Sir Bobby said: "The treatment has knocked me for 12, not six, but every day is a new day and the support of my good friends, family and all the very many well-wishers and supporters of my charity keeps me positive." Sir Bobby said he wanted to repay the NHS for the care he has received since he was first diagnosed with cancer in 1992.
