Trains get 1m security upgrade
A train operator in East Anglia is spending 1m to improve security on trains in a joint scheme with the British Transport Police (BTP).

National Express Group's One Railway said CCTV cameras were installed on 39 trains operating across Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

The scheme has also seen 40 additional train guards employed and security at weekends stepped up at Essex stations.

The operator said it aimed to deter crime and improve passenger safety.

The cameras will provide footage for BTP to help solve crimes such as arson, assault and graffiti.

In addition to One Railway's scheme, Network Rail has introduced covert CCTV cameras at railway stations in Hertfordshire.

They can be used remotely to capture images of trespassers on the tracks.
