Plans for sport village revealed
Plans for a multi-million pound centre for sporting excellence which would boast five football pitches and a 100-bed hotel have been unveiled.

Darlington Football Club wants to build the 12m sport and education village on redundant land at the town's Arena.

The plans also include a large indoor sports facility, 10 six-a-side football pitches and a classroom for 60 pupils.

They will now be considered by the Borough Council. Restaurants, a pub and offices are also proposed.

'Force for good'

George Houghton, chairman of Darlington Football Club, said: "These exciting proposals have been many months in the making.

"If they are accepted, the financial future of the club will be secured in the long term.

"The Darlington Village will provide vital educational, and much-needed sporting facilities, which will enable sport to take its rightful place as a force for good in the local community."

As well as providing banqueting and conference facilities, the hotel will be used as a training centre in conjunction with Darlington College to deliver hotel and catering qualifications.
