CCWater is consulting on a draft water strategy for the future
A public meeting is to be held to discuss the water shortage situation in the South East.

The Consumer Council for Water (CCW) is looking into current resources as well as what restrictions are in place across the region.

A meeting in Ashford, Kent, on 10 February will be attended by the South East, Portsmouth, Folkestone and Dover, Southern and Mid Kent water companies.

The Environment Agency will be asked for its views on the water situation.

Southern Water has asked the agency for permission to boost Bewl Water reservoir, on the Kent and Sussex border, with supplies from the River Medway.

Folkestone and Dover Water wants to impose compulsory meters on 20,000 customers as an emergency drought measure.

Mid Kent Water has had a total hosepipe ban in force since August.

South East Water also has a ban for its customers in Sussex and West Kent.
