Snowfall 'did not affect drought'
Bewl reservoir empty
Bewl Water reservoir has reached its lowest levels
Snow in Kent between Christmas and New Year will have had "little effect" on water supplies, a water firm has said.

Mid Kent Water said 10cm of snow was equal to 1cm of rain and its hosepipe ban remained "despite the heavy snow in the county this week".

A spokesman said: "In order to replenish water resources we need a sustained period of rain over what would be considered a 'wet winter'."

He said recent snow had "little effect on overall supplies".

Mid Kent Water asset director, Paul Seeley, said: "The aquifers remain severely depleted.

"The only surface reservoir we access supplies from in Kent is Bewl Water reservoir which is currently just 35% full."
