Danielle is one of five teenagers at Kelly's training camp |
Dame Kelly Holmes has tipped a teenager from West Sussex to be a future star at the 2012 Olympic Games. The double Olympic champion from Kent is currently in Spain coaching five talented youngsters who she feels could shine at major championships.
But Dame Kelly has said that Danielle Christmas, 17, from Crawley, already has all the attributes for a long and very successful athletics career.
Danielle said training with her heroine had been "really inspirational".
Great motivation
Dame Kelly said: "Danielle Christmas in my eyes is already a champion.
"She has an amazing style and already has amazing tactical awareness... and if she can be developed in the right way she's got a very long career ahead of her and a very successful one."
Danielle already holds the English Schools 1500 metres title and, after joining one of Kelly's training camps last year, became the Commonwealth Youth Champion over 800 metres.
The youngster said: "I just feel so lucky to be able to train with Kelly because I know there are so many athletes out there who would love to be able to have this experience.
"Just being around her is really inspirational so you get a lot of motivation from being around her."
The camp in Valencia is part two of 'On Camp With Kelly', an idea of Kelly's that began in South Africa last year because she wanted to put something back into the sport after her Olympic success.
