Eight young athletes are going to South Africa on camp with Kelly |
Kelly Holmes is taking eight of the UK's leading Under-20 women athletes to the training camp in South Africa where she trained for Olympic success. Potchefstroom camp, south-west of Johannesburgh, is where Holmes, from Hildenborough, Kent, was based for eight years before winning gold.
The women will stay for a month and live the life of full-time athletes.
"It will show them about the preparation, dedication and commitment it takes to be a success," said Holmes.
Get-together
The girls selected include Charlotte Best from Redhill and Danielle Christmas from Horley, both in Surrey, Laura Finucan from Colne, Lancashire and Jo Harper from Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
Also going are Morag McLarty from Auchterarder, Perthshire, Non Stanford from Swansea, south Wales, Rachael Thompson from Liverpool and Dannielle Walker from Lichfield, Staffordshire.
They attended a get-together at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on Saturday where they were given medical assessments and met the "On Camp with Kelly" management team.
Holmes, who won two gold medals in Athens, has been planning the trip since January.
"I hope I am not going to intimidate them," she said.
"They knew me when I was an athlete trying to achieve a dream.
"Now I am the athlete who has achieved that dream and hopefully that will motivate them."
