Engineers have had to turn off electricity to some homes to start work on repairs caused by storms.

Central Networks (CN) said Lincolnshire and Northants were its worst affected areas on Wednesday afternoon, with no definitive time for full reconnection.

Work was also expected to be futher hampered by another storm across the East Midlands on Wednesday evening.

About 3,700 homes were without power in the former East Midlands Electricity area, now served by CN.

That was made up of 2,125 in Lincolnshire and 1,000 in Northamptonshire, plus 380 in Derbyshire, 48 in both Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, and just two in Coventry and Warwickshire.

CN said some people had been cut off since the storms as power had to be turned off to allow power to be restored and repairs to wires and pylons.

About 25,000 homes were hit at the height of the storm in the East Midlands overnight on Tuesday.
